Un mondo di hipsters di Amit Shimoni

Amit Shimoni è un talentuoso illustratore di Tel Aviv che dal 2014 trasforma i leader mondiali in coloratissimi personaggi hipster.
Per il suo progetto, che si intitola per l’appunto “Hipstory”, Shimoni si è divertito a creare la sua personale e irriverente rappresentazione di alcuni tra i personaggi più influenti dell’era contemporanea – da Barack Obama alla Regina Elisabetta, da Gandhi alla Cancelliera tedesca Angela Merkel, e moltissimi altri ancora – ridisegnandone le fattezze secondo i canoni della subcultura hipster.
I often find myself wondering about the difference between my generation and the great leaders of modern history. About their belief system, the way they thought and what motivated them to act for change. Compared to our more self-centered generation which in my opinion is in a constant chase after fashion, style and trends as a way of self-expression while steering away from the big ideologies and meanings. I wanted HIPSTORY to re-imagine the great leaders of modern history and place them in a different time and culture era- ours. I wanted to created a sort of mirror- a mirror that on the one hand is supposed to make one smile, and on the other to make him think. As I see it criticism doesn’t always have to be poignant it can simply be a method to arouse discussion and show things under a certain light.

Pur inserendole in un contesto estetico lontano anni luce dalla loro posizione sociale e politica, l’artista israeliano ha studiato attentamente le personalità e la vita di ciascuna di queste celebrità, aggiungendo all’interno dei suoi disegni degli elementi che potessero essere un richiamo, più o meno esplicito, alla loro storia pubblica e personale.
Amit Shimoni ha studiato alla Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design di Gerusalemme. Ha collaborato con The New York Times e The Guardian. Attualmente vive e lavora a Tel Aviv.
