“Greetings From Mars” , una parodia alla selfite contemporanea

S’intitola “Greetings From Mars” il progetto fotografico dell’artista visivo di base a Parigi, Julien Mauve, una serie di immagini di paesaggio scattate nel selvaggio West americano, che inscenano una fantomatica gita sul pianeta rosso e satireggiano la moderna mania dei selfie in vacanza.
I have always wondered what it would be like to discover a totally different world, lifeless, full of wild landscapes and to photograph it for the first time as if I was Ansel Adams. So I came up with this project, which is about space exploration and discovery. But it’s also about our behavior in front of landscapes and how we create pictures that will share our personal story with the world. In every spots I stopped, carefully chosen for their similarities with the red planet, I imitated stereotypical tourist poses. It’s interesting to observe the way we act in front of the camera, how we include ourselves in the landscapes, how those landscapes trigger the desire to affirm our presence. And how the way we take pictures exposes the vanity involved in our endless pursuit of self-definition.

Da sempre interessato alla tecnologia e al modo in cui questa influenza i comportamenti umani, in questo lavoro Mauve mette a contrasto la propensione genuina all’esplorazione e l’emozione della scoperta di nuovi luoghi e nuovi mondi, con la tendenza virale a creare immagini stereotipate e spesso falsate di sé stessi da postare sui social network, vivendo l’esperienza del viaggio in funzione della validazione e dell’approvazione degli altri.
Julien Mauve ha ricevuto numerosi premi tra cui l’SFR Jeunes Talents (Francia) nel 2013, il Sony World Photography Award (UK) nel 2016 e La Bourse du Talent (Francia) nel 2018. Ha pubblicato due libri con la Poursuite Edition, L’Indifférence Des Étoiles (2016) and Titanic Orchestra (2017).
