Artista americano, classe 1961, Matthew Cox è l’autore di “Embroidered X-Rays”, una serie di opere dalla cifra stilistica davvero singolare, in cui unisce l’arte del ricamo alla diagnostica per immagini.
Con una tecnica eccellente e un pizzico di oscura ironia, Cox realizza coloratissimi ricami a mano su immagini cliniche a raggi x che, con ago e filo, imbelletta con volti e altri particolari anatomici, creando l’illusione che appartengano alle persone realmente radiografate.
I think of myself as an artist who, in the instance of the embroidered x-rays, draws with thread. My introduction to stitching was probably noticing my mother quilt. She continues a long-standing Southern American tradition of quilting quilts whose tops are made of leftover scraps of material.

Matthew Cox vive a Long Beach, in California. Cox ha studiato alla Parsons School of Design di New York e alla Otis/Parsons di Los Angeles. Espone il suo lavoro a livello internazionale e le sue opere sono presenti nelle collezioni permanenti del New Orleans Museum of Art, della Progressive Insurance Corporate Art Collection, della Georgetown College Art Gallery.
