Le bancarelle di tutto il mondo fotografate da Simon Koy

Fotografo tedesco, classe 1979, Simon Koy ha girondolato per il mondo in un lungo e in largo, per circa dieci anni, con l’intento di fotografare e documentare le differenze e le peculiarità dei mercati e venditori ambulanti dei diversi luoghi che ha visitato.
Colorati, affollati, stracolmi di ogni genere di merce, prodotti locali, cibo, vestiti e profumi: quando si viaggia alla scoperta di un paese straniero, cosa c’è di meglio che perdersi tra le file di banchetti dei suoi mercati?
Dall’India alla Cina, dall’Iran al Perù, le fotografie della serie “Verkaufsstände weltweit” (bancarelle di tutto il mondo) ci mostrano i numerosissimi mercati e bazar in cui Koy si è recato, evidenziando quanto questa esperienza ci permetta di entrare in contatto con la gente del posto, con le loro tradizioni e la loro cultura.
Stalls are everywhere and can tell you a lot about a country. In many cases, they’re completely improvised – just a pop-up type shop in the middle of nowhere, selling all kinds of unusual things. It can be very amusing and heartwarming, and I love to meet the people who run them. Sure, not everyone I meet is friendly, but how I’m welcomed reveals a lot more about the local culture than you’d expect. Sometimes, it can be sad… for example, in Cuba, they often sell things which would otherwise be thrown away in Europe. It really highlights the depth of poverty in some parts of the world.
