La fotografa britannica Ellie Davies dal 2007 ambienta le sue fotografie nei boschi e nelle foreste dell’Inghilterra meridionale, per esplorare la complessa interrelazione tra uomo e natura.
Il bosco, terreno del sogno e della psiche, luogo ricco di simbolismi e significati archetipi, protagonista di fiabe, miti e storie popolari, è raccontato nei lavori della Davies attraverso piccoli interventi site-specific, effimeri e non invasivi, che ne rivelano tutto il fascino misterioso e collocano lo spettatore nello spazio liminare tra realtà e fantasia.
UK forests have been shaped by human processes over thousands of years and include ancient woodlands, timber forestry, wildlife reserves and protected Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. As such, the forest represents the confluence of nature and culture, of natural landscape and human activity. Forests are potent symbols in folklore, fairytale and myth, places of enchantment and magic as well as of danger and mystery. In recent history they have come to be associated with psychological states relating to the unconscious. Against this cultural backdrop my work explores the fabricated nature of landscape by making a variety of temporary and non-invasive interventions in the forest, which place the viewer in the gap between reality and fantasy.
Ellie Davies
Nata nel 1976, Ellie Davies vive e lavora nel Dorset. Ha conseguito un Master in Fotografia presso il London College of Communication. Davies è rappresentata dalla Crane Kalman Brighton Gallery nel Regno Unito, A.Galerie a Parigi, Dimmitt Contemporary Art a Houston e Austin, Texas, Susan Spiritus Gallery in California, Gilman Contemporary a Sun Valley, Idaho e Brucie Collections a Kiev. Ha esposto le sue fotografie a livello internazionale.
